Keeping Track of Your Kids With GPS
Global positioning systems or GPS for short is a way to track the location of people or things using the satellites in the sky. GPS systems these days are small and compact and can be installed many places such as your car, a watch, cell phone, backpack. The fact that the GPS systems are so small and portable makes them perfect to use as GPS kids tracking devices.
GPS tracking for children is a way to help parents keep tabs on where their children are. These GPS kids devices can be placed in watches, cell phones, backpacks, even attached to the children’s shoes. With a GPS device attached it makes it simple to find a child who is lost or even god forbid abducted. GPS is a great little insurance policy to make sure our children are always able to be found.
GPS tracking works by utilizing satellite based navigation. There are currently a number of satellites in orbit, placed there by the US Dept. of Defense solely for the purpose of navigation and tracking. They send out a specially encoded signal that the GPS receivers can process and understand. The GPS satellites are always in orbit and always sending information and they are located in such a way that a GPS device can take the signal from them and locate it’s exact location anywhere on Earth.
There are several companies that provide GPS tracking services. It’s so simple to start tracking your kids with GPS. Simply purchase a GPS device and have it programmed for the service you plan on using. There is a monthly fee that is paid to the GPS service and it varies from company to company. You then attach the GPS kids tracking device to the child or one of their possessions such as a backpack, watch or cell phone. GPS is very accurate and reliable and can locate a person within several yards accurately.
There are a variety of plans you can subscribe to get tracking services. Anything from unlimited tracking to just several trackings per month is available. Obviously the unlimited tracking is the most expensive option.
The tracking information can also be accessed in several different ways. Some companies offer tracking via the internet or your cell phone, while others require you to install software on your computer for your GPS kids tracking. You can also receive reports from most of the companies with details of the tracking being done. Real time reporting is the most expensive option when you subscribe to a GPS tracking plan.
The only real negative to GPS kids tracking is the cost, but for the peace of mind that it affords you it really isn’t all that expensive. You should plan on paying $150 as a minimum for the actual GPS tracking device and anywhere from $25-100 per month for the GPS tracking service.
A children’s GPS tracking system can give you added comfort and security knowing that you can find your children no matter where they are. GPS kids may balk at having the device, especially once they are teens, but many will accept it if explained to them in the proper way. Younger children are much easier and often don’t even need to know that the GPS tracking device is installed. Remember, GPS tracking is no substitute for proper parental supervision, but it does provide some additional peace of mind in the case of emergencies.
